About Me

Phil Bergman

  

For the last five years Phil has worked in local television as multimedia journalist, reporter and anchor. Currently Phil works at KMTV 3 News Now, the CBS-affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska (DMA #65) as a reporter and fill-in anchor. He is a one-man band reporter who looks to tell A Block stories each day. On top of reporting stories on-air and writing stories for web daily, Phil has assisted in his station’s digital and social strategy and has helped implement content on the station’s OTT platforms. Phil knows how important it is to have a strong social and digital presence and look to create content that can be implemented on multiple platforms.


Prior to covering news, Phil spent multiple years as a sports anchor and reporter, working as the weekend sports anchor at KMTV 3 News Now and a sports reporter at KLKN-TV in Lincoln, Nebraska (DMA #107). While working at KLKN, Phil received the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Bronze Medal for Best Sports Story or Series in 2017 and Best On-Scene Sports Reporting in 2018. 

Phil also previously worked at KOMU-TV, the NBC-affiliate in Columbia, Missouri (DMA #137) as a multimedia journalist and held roles as a digital producer and sports producer at KOMU-TV and was a reporter at KBIA-FM, the NPR-affiliate in Columbia, Missouri. 


Outside of work, Phil helps coach lacrosse and was an assistant coach for the University of Nebraska Lacrosse Club for three years and now assists an area high school team in Omaha. Phil has also done research relating to sport academia and has presented at the 2018 College Sports Research Institute and the 2016 North American Society for Sport Management Conference. 


Phil graduated magna cum laude from the Missouri School of Journalism in May 2016, with a degree in broadcast journalism. While in school, he was an all-conference member and an MCLA Scholar Athlete on Mizzou’s lacrosse team and played sousaphone for three-years in the marching band. He is currently getting his professional masters in Sports Administration from Ohio University.
